I had my first singing lessons in 2016, thanks to Merit Arianne Stephanos. I was trying to sing one of my own compositions, Sing no sad songs for me, while also learning the repertoire of my heroine Joan Baez. In time I had some lessons in jazz with Emilia Martensson. And most recently I’ve joined a course in Sicilian singing with Matilde Politi. Along with enjoying the intimate journey offered by discovering one’s own voice, I’m very happy to find myself leading a small choir of women in Siracusa (Coro CuraCori), as well as teaching young African singer-songwriters how to use their voices more effectively in the project Today is Good!.
